Fruition Online- Magic

There is a lot to talk about here, and with its own subdirectories (too convoluded otherwise).

So let's just get to the jist of things- Runes, Summons, Scrolls, Spellbooks, Enchanting, and Spell Cards.

Runes

Spells are made up of Runes. Whatever are "Runes"? They are special letters that hold magical power, and can only be made use of by someone able to wield it. That means mages. Well, also a wizard, or necromancer. It depends on the magic-using class the Rune is attuned to.

An example might be the 'heal' Rune isn't naturally usable by a necromancer. It isn't their forte. Fire magic wouldn't be usable by a necromancer either, but a mage. Every NPC in the game that helps teach magic (that isn't a Wizard) will make fun of any wizard they meet.

Necromancers are able to animate the dead, though. No one else can.

The best thing about Runes is that spells can be found as scrolls and taken apart into individual runes. Depending on what you mix, and how, you'll cast different spells. Use a Reversal rune with a fire spell, and you cast ice, as an example.

Summons are created in a process that combines two souls within a single powerful and magical cut gemstone- a soulstone. These are stupidly expensive and hard to find, so your best bet is a specific shop.

You can get cheaper ones, of course, but your summon will be way weaker. Plus make sure your gem is attuned to the souls you're shoving in there.

Let's look at a Ruby Soulstone. Think it's attuned to a fire elemental? You're right. You're good now. However, you need a second soul! You have its element down, but not the form it will take. Find some other creature and fuse its soul with the fire elemental within the soulstone and you'll have your summon handy.

Just don't get knocked unconscious while it's active or it will turn on you and your allies! That is, if you're even powerful enough to call it forth.

Summons

Spells are almost always found as scrolls. Very rarely are you given runes directly through quests or any other means!

You'll want to keep whatever ones you can get your greasy mitts on. However, you can also only have certain amounts of certain runes- so you won't be able to keep *everything*. You might as well sell them. Or...

Deconstruct scrolls in order to make other scrolls, so you can save certain runes and discard others. Scrolls barely take any magic or skill to cast, so they're good training. Can you sell scrolls to warriors so they can cast spells even though they don't have the aptitude for it? The answer is "no". That's what Spell Cards are for. Read below.

Scrolls

Make, were given, or find a spell that you really like, but it's a scroll? Well too bad, it's a one-time-use-only thing. Cast and its gone forever.

But that's what a spellbook is for! Add your scrolls into the spellbook and they will act like the book's pages. You can't cast it anywhere near as easily anymore, but you can cast it however often you want once you are able to cast it at full strength on your own power from now on, and there is no chance of losing it.

Unless you remove the page and it's a scroll again. Spellbooks can only contain certain numbers of certain runes, and only ever a single copy of each scroll (you don't need duplicate pages anyway.) You'll probably have to end up breaking your scrolls up into Runes just for this reason, but a spellbook can also contain runes not part of spells or scrolls as long as the total maximum wasn't already reached.

Spellbooks

Just as spells are customizeable, and crafting is just as open-ended, so too is the combination.

Can you create your own spell and add it to a sword you made? Yes you can. The quality of the material, craftsmanship, and spell- yes you can cast Low, Normal, and Exceptional spells- all matter significantly in what you can enchant with what.

There are three types of enchantment:

-Passive (Adds a bonus of some kind to the character using the enchanted object)

-On Hit (Causes the spell to go off when a target is struck)

-On Swing (Unleashes the spell just by swinging your weapon. You don't need a target. This                           is especially useful depending on the Zone you're in and various circumstances)

Enchanting

These beauties are one of the easiest money-making things a magic-user can create. Even if you have personal ways around having to use reagents to cast your spells- you still need them to create a spell card. Each spell is cast through the card's power, not the power of the creator of the card, and not the power of the caster.

A warrior that's really really dumb can just pull out a spell card and throw it- and the spell will activate. There are no qualities of spell card, so you can even be a shitty craftsman and useless mage and still be able to make these just fine.

You know, as long as you were able to cast the spell to begin with. How else do you think the active spell gets into the card? The gems and magical materials needed to create it? Nope. That's to reactivate the spell when the single-use card is thrown.
